Log a Drug Log entry

Updated September 30, 2026

Every time a controlled drug comes in, is given, is wasted or needs correcting, log it in the Drug Log. The balance updates straight away.

Entry types

  • Administered: given to a patient
  • Received: new stock in
  • Waste: drawn up or opened but not given
  • Adjustment: a correction, such as after a count. You choose Add or Remove under Direction.

Log an entry

  1. Open Logs from the menu, choose the Drug Log tab, and tap + Log entry.
  2. Pick the Drug. The list shows how much of each is on hand.
  3. Pick the Type.
  4. Enter the Amount, in the drug's unit.
  5. For anything other than Received, add the Patient and Client. The patient is required for Administered.
  6. Pick a Witness from your team. If the witness isn't on houndkit, type their name in …or witness name instead. A witness is required for Administered and Waste.
  7. Add Notes if useful, such as a lot number, invoice or reason.
  8. Tap Log entry.

What the Drug Log checks

  • The amount must be more than zero.
  • An entry can't take the balance below zero. If it would, you'll see the current balance. Double-check the amount, or log an adjustment to correct the count first.

Void a mistake

Entries can't be edited or deleted. To fix one:

  1. Find the entry in the ledger and tap Void.
  2. Type a reason and tap Void again.
  3. Log the entry again correctly.

The voided entry stays on the record with its reason and no longer counts toward the balance. Tick Show voided to see voided entries.

Tip

Start each new drug with a Received entry for what's already on the shelf. Otherwise the first Administered entry will be blocked for taking the balance below zero.
