Update a lab

Updated September 30, 2026

Open a lab to move it along your workflow, attach the results and keep the team in the loop. Click any row on the board to open it.

Change the status

  1. Click the colored status button under Status.
  2. Pick the new status.

The change is logged in the chat.

If your clinic has a status with "Ready for DVM review" in its name, choosing it notifies the doctor who ordered the lab, as long as they were picked from the list when it was logged.

Mark it done

  1. Click the status button.
  2. Choose Done at the bottom of the menu.

The lab leaves the Open view. To bring it back, open it from Done, click the status button and choose Reopen, or just pick any status.

Attach results

  1. In Attachments, click Add PDF.
  2. Choose the PDF.

Click a file name to view it in houndkit. From the viewer, Open shows it in a new tab. Hover over a file to remove it.

Chat about the lab

Type in the message box at the bottom. Type @ to tag a teammate; they get a notification. You can react to messages too.

Fix the details

Click the pencil button at the top to edit Patient name, Client name, Contact info, Labs ordered, Ordered by (DVM) and Notes. Click Save changes.

Copy into your PIMS

Click the copy button at the top. houndkit copies a summary with the labs, who ordered and submitted them, the status, your notes and the chat messages. Status changes and other automatic entries aren't included. Clinic admins can change the format. See Set up Labs.
