Practice triage
Triage practice gives you ten cases at a time: patients arriving at the front desk and owners calling about them. You decide how urgent each one is, and Tell Tail explains what decided it.
The two scales
At the front desk, you pick a color:
| Color | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Green | Stable |
| Yellow | Tech eyes on the patient within 5 minutes |
| Red | Rush to the back |
On the phone, you pick where to direct the caller: Task for the DVM, Appointment this week, Appointment tomorrow, Work them in today, Recommend urgent care or Recommend the ER.
Start a round
- Open Tell Tail and click Triage.
- Pick Where: Both, Front desk or Phone.
- Pick your Experience level: Starter, Core or Experienced.
- Pick what to Practice: How urgent, Likely condition, What to tell them, What to ask, Body language, Vitals, What do they mean?, or A bit of everything.
- Under Urgency calls, choose Ask how sure I am or Just mark it. Set Patients to dogs, cats or both.
- Click Start 10 cases.
If your clinic has hand-built cases, you can also choose under Cases whether to mix them in.
How it's marked
- That's right: full credit.
- Cautious call, half credit: you called it one step more urgent than it was. Better too careful than too slow.
- Safety miss: you called it less urgent than it was. These count for nothing, because they're the ones that matter.
After each case you see What decided it, what it Could be, and questions worth asking. At higher levels, a tough client or a throwaway detail may be part of the case.
After the round
You get a score, a line about any safety misses, and Brush up on topics. Those come back in your Fetch reviews too. Click Another round or Change settings.
Tip
If you're not sure, go one step more urgent. Tell Tail's home page will nudge you if you've been calling patients less urgent than they were.
