Add orders to a patient

Orders are what puts treatments, fluids, vitals checks, diagnostics and care on a patient's chart. You fill a list in one panel, then place everything at once.

Write orders

1. On the patient's sheet, tap Add orders.
2. Under Ordering doctor, pick the doctor. It starts on you if you're a DVM, or on today's doctor on duty. For a relief doctor who isn't on houndkit, tap Relief doctor… and type their name.
3. Under What are you ordering?, tap the kind of order you want (see below), fill it in, and set when it runs.
4. To order something else too, tap Add another order. The order joins Waiting to be placed and the form clears for the next one.
5. Tap the pencil on a waiting line to change it, or the bin to remove it.
6. Tap Place orders (it counts them, such as Place 3 orders). Everything goes on the sheet together, including the order still open in the form.

Kinds of order

• Medication: a drug given on a schedule. Search your clinic's pharmacy, or write the whole order the way you'd write it on paper, such as "carprofen 75mg po bid #10". A Dose helper works out the dose from the patient's weight and warns if it's outside your clinic's range. Each medication shows the label it will print.
• One-time dose: a drug given once, such as an injection
• Fluids: pick the fluid, maintenance rate and dehydration, and houndkit works out the mL/hr with the working shown. You can also add drugs to the bag for a CRI.
• Vitals check: choose which readings each check takes.
• Diagnostic: pick one of your clinic's tests or type your own, with a result unit.

The smaller buttons under More hold the rest:

• Any checks your clinic lets doctors order, such as Feed or Walk
• Other care: anything else that needs doing, such as a warm compress
• Check group: a set of checks, like kennel checks. Pick the group and tap Add … checks to list.
• Order set: a saved bundle such as "Post-op spay". It goes on straight away, with per-kilogram doses worked out again for this patient's weight.

Say when it runs

Every order has up to three rows:

• How often: choices like Once, q8h (TID), q12h (BID) and As needed (PRN). Other shows more, such as Weekly and Anytime during stay, or type your own number of hours. Your clinic's timing presets show underneath, under or at set times.
• First one: Now, At a time you type, Tonight 8 PM, Tomorrow morning, or Pick a date…. This row stays highlighted until you choose, so the first dose time is always deliberate. For a one-time dose it's called Give it.
• For how long: Until stopped, a number of days, or Until… to choose an end time

Just type it

No time to build orders properly? Under More, tap Just type it, paste the orders as written, and tap Save quick orders. They show on the sheet as waiting until someone enters them and taps They're on the sheet.

Confirming orders

If your clinic requires a doctor on every medication, a med written by someone who isn't that doctor shows Waiting on the doctor. The doctor taps Confirm on it in the Orders list. A DVM's own orders confirm themselves.

Save a sheet as a set

Under the Orders list, tap Save this sheet as a set, name it, tick the lines and tap Save set.
