Write notes and hand off a shift

Everything anyone writes about a patient lives in one notes thread you can copy into your PIMS. A shift handoff tells the next shift what they need to know, and shows who picked it up.

Add a note

1. On the patient's sheet, find the Notes card.
2. Pick the kind of note: Hospitalization note, DVM note, Client update or Round note.
3. Type it and tap the send button (or press Cmd+Enter or Ctrl+Enter).

Each note shows the author's name and the time. Anyone can write a DVM note, so a tech can type up what the doctor said. The note carries the tech's name.

To file a note at the time it's about, click a square in the Hospitalization notes or DVM notes row on the chart. Set About what time, write the note and tap Save note. This is handy for notes written once things calm down.

On the board, the Quick round note… box on each card adds a round note without opening the sheet.

Read and copy the thread

The filter chips (Everything, Ward, DVM, Client, Round) narrow the thread to one kind. Tap Copy all (or Copy these when filtered) to copy the notes as one block for the PIMS record.

To remove a note added by mistake, hover over it and tap Undo.

Hand off a shift

1. On the Shift handoff card, tap Write handoff (or Write a new one if there's already one).
2. houndkit drafts the note from the sheet: what's overdue, the last vitals with anything abnormal called out, fluids, and doses that didn't go in. Edit it into your own words.
3. Tap Hand over.

The board shows a Handoff badge on the card until someone picks it up. Anyone except the writer can tap I've got it. The card then says who picked it up and when.

Handoffs are never edited after the fact. Writing a new one replaces the last, and older ones stay under Earlier handoffs.
