What the Surgery Calculator is for

The Surgery Calculator is a one-page anesthesia drug sheet. Type the patient's weight and every drug on it works out the volume to draw up, ready to print or save as a PDF.

What's on the sheet

• A header with the patient's name, procedure, date, client and phone, plus a large CPR or DNR and the name of the person filling in the sheet
• A Patient section with the patient's details and weight
• Drug sections: Emergency Drugs, Fluids, Pre-meds, Intra-Op/Post-Op, Induction, Reversals, Blocks and DKT

Each drug row shows the drug and its stock concentration, the dose, and a Calculated box.

How the numbers are worked out

You enter the weight in pounds. The sheet shows it in kilograms (pounds divided by about 2.2) and uses that for every row.

• A drug with a dose in mg/kg and a concentration in mg/ml shows the volume in ml.
• A drug with a dose but no concentration shows the amount in mg.
• A drug with no dose set stays blank, for writing in by hand.
• The fluid rate row works out a surgical fluid rate in ml/hr from the weight.

Every sheet carries a reminder at the bottom to verify all doses and concentrations before giving anything.

Where it lives

The Surgery Calculator is a tab in Hospital, next to Hospitalized. Open Hospital from the menu and tap Surgery Calculator. You can also open it straight from a hospitalized patient's sheet with the scissors button (Surgery sheet), which fills in their details for you.

Clinic admins decide which drugs and extra questions are on the sheet, and see an Edit sheet link on the calculator.
