Discharge a patient

Discharging sends a patient home with a summary, a go-home medication list and the whole stay written out for your PIMS. It also catches the small things that get forgotten on a busy afternoon.

Discharge a patient

1. On the patient's sheet, tap Discharge.
2. Work through Before they go: Final weight recorded, Go-home medications written, Running treatments stopped, Discharge handout given, Owner spoken to, IV catheter out and Belongings home with them. Anything the sheet can already prove is ticked for you and marked "from the sheet".
3. If treatments are still running, Stop the … treatments still running is ticked. Leave it ticked to stop them all.
4. If a catheter is still in, Pull the … catheter is ticked. Leave it ticked to record the line as removed.
5. If belongings are still here, Send … home with them is ticked. Leave it ticked to mark them all as gone home.
6. Check Going home on. It starts with the medications still running, not everything given during the stay. Tick any other med to add it. You can also edit the list by hand, but ticking a med afterwards rewrites it.
7. Edit the Discharge summary draft into your own words.
8. Tap Discharge.

You can discharge with items still unticked. The box lists what's left, and the record shows it either way.

The stay, written out

The stay, in order is every note, dose, fluid change, catheter and notable reading as one block, oldest first, with a heading for each day. Tap Copy for the PIMS to paste it into the patient's record. Clinic admins choose what goes into this block.

Prescription labels

The Prescriptions card on the sheet lists every running medication with the doctor's shorthand and a label written your clinic's way. Tap either to copy it, or tap Copy all labels. If an order has no length or quantity, the card reminds you to add one before it goes home.

Copy or print the whole sheet

At any time, not just at discharge:

• Copy for PIMS in the sheet header copies the same written-out stay.
• PDF downloads the full chart, with initials under every entry.

After discharge

The patient moves to the Discharged tab on the board. Their sheet shows a Discharge card with the summary and go-home meds, and a Copy button.

If they come back, open their sheet and tap Readmit. Clinic admins can also Delete a discharged patient. This removes the sheet, every log, handoff and file, and can't be undone.
