Admit a patient

Admitting puts a patient on the Hospital board and opens their treatment sheet. It's the paperwork a tech or assistant fills in before the doctor writes any orders.

Admit a patient

1. Open Hospital and, on Hospitalized, tap Admit patient.
2. Under The patient, type the Name and pick the species: Dog, Cat, Exotic or Other. Add a Signalment and Weight (lb) if you have them. houndkit shows the weight in kilograms as you type.
3. Under The owner, add the Client name and, if you like, a Phone number.
4. Under Where things are, paste the PIMS record link (the link to this patient's chart in your practice software). Add a Kennel / location, such as "ICU 2".
5. Under Why they're here, write the presenting problem and pick a code status, CPR or DNR, if you know it.
6. Under Tags, tap any of your clinic's tags that apply. To add a one-off tag, type it in the Other box and press Enter.
7. Tap Admit & open sheet.

The patient's sheet opens, ready for orders. A patient needs a name and a PIMS record link before you can admit them.

Change details later

On the treatment sheet, tap the pencil (Edit details) in the header. You can change the name, signalment, weight, kennel, client, phone, PIMS link, reason for the stay and code status. Hospitalization notes here is a free-text summary for the PIMS. Tap Save when you're done.

To change tags, tap the small tag button next to the patient's name, tap tags on or off (or type a one-off tag and press Enter), then tap the tag button again to close it.

Set the primary team member

Each patient can show who's looking after them today. Tap Set primary under the patient's name and pick someone. That person is also told when their patient's treatments go overdue.

If your clinic links this to a Schedule job role, the person working that role today fills in automatically and is marked "from the schedule". You can still pick someone else for the day. Choose Clear — go back to the schedule to undo your pick.
